22 Mills Place Home To The Restaurant Edwin Mills By Equator OUR PASADENA RESTAURANT In 1992, Equator Coffee House opened at 22 Mills Place. The cafΓ© became a popular hotspot for office workers and students alike. Over time, Equatorβs offerings evolved to include hookah, and in 2005 the site expanded to include a full menu and bar. It wasnβt until 2014 that the restaurant was rebranded and remodeled as Edwin Mills by Equator. We decided to keep βEquatorβ in the name because of the coffee house where it all began. Our ties to the past remain important even as we modernize our restaurant. Edwin Mills by Equator has evolved through the years much like the surrounding community that it belongs to. At the same time, maintaining a connection to Old Pasadenaβs history is one of the most important objectives for owner and Pasadena local, Teddy B. With our quality New American menu, welcoming ambiance, and original cocktail selection, Edwin Mills by Equator serves as a cultured space for locals and beyond. OLD PASADENAβS HISTORY COMES ALIVE INSIDE OUR RESTAURANT WALLS Our building dates back to 1856, at a time when Old Pasadena was vibrant and alive with culture (just like it is now). The venue we now share with other establishments, reaching from Mills Pl all the way to Fair Oaks, used to be known as the China Palace. Our portion of the building (22 Mills Pl) served as the horse stables for the larger thriving marketplace. Fast-forward to the 1920s and the site is a favorite after-hours joint for Hollywoodβs most famous. Why? Because of the tunnels underneath the building, which are still there to this day. They functioned as an Opium Den run by entrepreneurs in the local Chinese community. After Prohibition, the space was used as an Assembly Room for Model T Fords. It would be easy to ignore the vast history. But to forget the past would be a disservice to the community and its locals. So, Teddy decided to maintain the history, in part, through the dΓ©cor. The barβs rustic brick faΓ§ade, the exposed wooden beams on the ceiling, and the paneling on the walls all works together to recreate the horse stables from the 1800s. WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD AND DRINK, QUALITY IS A MUST Our goal is to keep it distinct and fresh while utilizing customary ingredients found in the traditional fare. The Brunch Menu serves Dim Sum from Monterrey Park through the company Pacific Culinary Group, the same company that serves locations like Langham and the Ritz Carlton. It doesnβt take a genius to steam up dim sum. But the reason Teddy and his longtime Chef, Arturo, chose dim sum as a brunch favorite is a callback to the history of the building and Old Pasadena. Serving dim sum is one way to keep a piece of Edwin Millsβ beautiful history intact. OUR RESTAURANT ALSO SERVES AS A GALLERY SPACE FOR LOCAL ART The relaxing and sophisticated ambiance at Edwin Mills would be bereft without the artwork. Michael Hussar, a local Southern Californian artist, creates beautiful, provocative images that serve as focal points for the dΓ©cor. Visitors from out of town often come in to snap some photos with his art before having a drink at the bar. Hussar was trained at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. And his original oil paintings can be acquired through Edwin Mills. Just ask your server for details. Teddy And The Staff Work Hard To Provide A Welcoming Atmosphere For People From All Walks Of Life. Whether You Are Coming In For A Much-Needed Drink After Work, A Quick Bite, A Birthday Party Or A Romantic Date Night, Our Restaurant Is A Crafted Space Designed To Enrich Any Experience. The Staff At Edwin Mills Doesnβt Just Want To Make You A Customer; They Want To Make You A Regular. And With The Daily Specials And Happy Hour Deals, You Can Easily Afford To Be A Part Of The Edwin Mills Family.

On to Los Angeles, Doug played in the bands of Bill Holman, Ray Anthony, and John Clayton, and performed and recorded with Jake Hanna, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Sheldon, Bob Cooper, Ross Tompkins, Ray Brown, Buddy Rich, and Ray Charles. Doug also began recording and performing with his own trio and quartet, as well as his 13 piece ensemble, The Jazz Coalition. Throughout his career, the guitarist has caught the attention of noted jazz writers and critics. Michael Nastos of All Music Guide wrote, βa veteran guitarist who knows his influences cold, and consistently plays to his strong suit.β Scott Yanow wrote of MacDonald, β...a fine bop-based guitarist in the tradition of Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, and Joe Pass.β Chicago Tribuneβs Zan Stewart captured so much of MacDonald when he wrote, β...beautiful bell-clear sounds and a sure-footed sense of swing.β drummer Harold Acey round out the personnel.β More Info Jan 23, 2026 7:00PM - 11:00PM Catalina Combo Jazz Standards Video Hot Jazz & World Cafe Paul Eckman - Bass Willie McNeil - Vocals Jeff Miley - Guitar More Info Jan 24, 2026 7:00PM - 11:00PM GRACE FAE AND THE GRANDBIRDS Jazz Swinging Songs Video Grace Fae and The Grandbirds is a vintage jazz band based in Los Angeles, specializing in swinging songs from the 1920s- 1940s, with some French and contemporary tunes. I bring to you the music of the 20th Century; otherwise known as the "Great American Songbook". It was the popular music of the day from the 1920s to the 1960s and still remains a vital part of the repertoire of jazz musicians, who describe such songs simply as "jazz standards". I was very attracted to this music and sought it out wherever I could. My first exposure to the vocalists and songs of this wonderful music came a few years later when a friend of mine brought back some albums that he got during a trip to the United States. I heard the first few bars of a song and suddenly felt that I had discovered something new. I didnβt know it at the time but I was listening to Frank Sinatra singing a song written by Cole Porter and accompanied by Nelson Riddle in what was later become one of his most iconic orchestrations. The song was βIβve Got You Under My Skinβ β How can anybody resist three giants like Sinatra, Porter and Riddle and not fall in love with this kind of music! I was fortunate that I knew some English so I could understand most of the song, because I suddenly felt this urge to sing only American Music. The photograph on the back cover of my latest CD, entitled βIβve Gotta Be Me,β shows me at my very first public appearance in the City of Cordoba, Argentina in 1966. I feel compelled to explain that the young man in the photograph is neither my son nor my grandsonβ¦It is just ME only forty seven years ago β Have I changed that much ? β Really? After a few years, in 1968, I decided to move to the United States to follow my dream. Sometimes there is a certain blessing in not knowing how much one doesn't know so I came really believing that I was βreadyβ and totally unaware that I was merely starting a long and arduous learning processβ¦but it was really exciting. The first thing I did was buy every album I could get my hands on and attend every show I could. Fortunately, at that time the vocalists singing the great American standards were the stars of the moment. I remember a few days after landing at LAX I was at the Greek Theatre listening to Jack Jones with the Buddy Rich Bandβ¦I thought to myself βThis is Heaven and I am in it.β Since then, from time to time, I allowed circumstances to take me away from performing and drive me into the well known trap called Corporate America. However, there was never a moment when my love for the music was not the strongest presence in my life. And that love has led me to follow my heart and make βIβve Gotta Be Me.β Many years ago, when I first started singing in Argentina, a very old timer tango singer under the effects of some good Chianti, gave me some sound advice β Kid (Yesβ¦I WAS a kid at the time) if you want to sing you need to learn two things: First: Get the best musicians you can find and Second: Stay out of the way and donβt muck things up (He actually used a different word instead of muck) I am happy to say, I have been very successful with the first part β I am still working and getting better on the second one. When people have comments about the great musicians I have on my latest CD they always mentioned that I should be proud of them. To this I respond: More than proud, what I feel is extremely grateful. Andy, Steve, Karl and Doug are geniuses, and each one brings a life of musical experience and talent. Andy Howe has been my musical director for the last ten years and, in addition to playing wonderful piano and directing, he has written some of the best arrangements I have. He has an uncanny ability to understand in very few words, what I want to achieve with a song and what mood needs to be set and come up with the most beautiful and creative orchestrations. For these reasons, I still count within my repertoire songs like βIβve Gotta Be Me,β βThe Impossible Dream (The Quest),β and most recently βHereβs to Life.β All of them about celebrating what life is really about and being honest to oneβs true self. "title": "Restaurant in Pasadena with a New American Style | Edwin Mills by Equator",
"content": "22 Mills Place Home To The Restaurant Edwin Mills By Equator OUR PASADENA RESTAURANT In 1992, Equator Coffee House opened at 22 Mills Place. And With The Daily Specials And Happy Hour Deals, You Can Easily Afford To Be A Part Of The Edwin Mills Family.",

Nowadays Chloe performs with her French Jazz Band as a duet (guitar / singing or piano / singing), trio (piano, bass, singing) and quartet (piano, electronic bass, drums, singing) in several locations and clubs in Paris such as The Sunset, The Sunside, The 7 Lezards, The Pinot Franc, The Reservoir, The Studio des Islettes, The Murano Hotel and 9 Jazz Club ... and in NYC at the Zinc Bar, The Iridium, Bonafide Club, Why not jazz club, Cornelia Street cafe, The Manderley at the Mc Kittrick hotel, Club Bonafide, The flat of the Standard, the Flatiron room, Opia, Fine & Rare ... Jazzbox on Radio Aligre, and the TV show Telematin in France among others. Chloe's great strength is her ability to connect with her audience using her clear voice, emotion and true artistic talent. Whether she interprets great jazz standards, bossa nova, French songs, or her own compositions, she transports the audience into her poetic and romantic universe and enchants the audience with the refreshing and dreamy way she has of looking at life. Her first album \"Heart of French\" (heart of a French girl) is a cheerful mix of famous French songs and her own compositions arranged with a jazz rhythm. She has a very original trio using only a piano and drums. She is accompanied by the talented pianist Elie Chemali (Big sick body, Cheb Kaled, Mamami Keita ...) and the groovy drummer Felix Sabal-Lecco (Manu Dibango, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock ...). She is preparing her second album with her new band French Heart Jazz Band , a mix of French songs and American jazz standards from the 20s to the 40s with a continental flare, with which she is performing all around the city (Cornelia street cafe, Club Bonafide, The Manderley at the McKittrick Hotel, The top of the standard, and more). Jan 31, 2026 7:00PM - 11:00PM Sylvia & The Rhythm Boys Jazz Standards Video Greetings my friends........... I bring to you the music of the 20th Century; otherwise known as the \"Great American Songbook\". It was the popular music of the day from the 1920s to the 1960s and still remains a vital part of the repertoire of jazz musicians, who describe such songs simply as \"jazz standards\". With much love, Sylvia More Info Feb 6, 2026 7:00PM - 11:00PM Chloe Perrier French Jazz Singer Video Chloe Perrier is a French Jazz singer based in NYC. While it also functions as a bar, the primary business model and content focus centers on restaurant operations."
